Synchronous-Dressage

NOTE:  This page was built by KaTrina Velde in early July 2017.  It is her best interpretation of the rules, but she is still getting them finalized from the original creators.  Thank you to Bridled By Force farm and its trainers for creating this event!

Is a new Dressage, performed on the Flower Dressage field, where the participating ponies take commands by whip from the trainer.

1 to 4 Ponies can participate.

Ponies will stand in the Small outer circles B, D, F, H.  The trainer will direct the pony/ponies to their starting positions.

The pony/ponies will stand in the outer circle with their backs to the center circle.  (See the green arrows in the drawing above; that is the direction each pony should face.)

Then the Trainer will give the pony/ponies a directional command, cracking the whip 3 or 4 times.  See the image above:

  • Crack the Whip 3 times -> ponies turn to their LEFT (yellow arrow)
  • Crack the Whip 4 times -> ponies turn to their RIGHT (red arrow)

Once the pony/ponies are facing the direction desired by the trainer, the trainer will then ask if they are ready to continue.  (Trainer: "READY?"   Each Pony:  "STOMP!")

When the pony/ponies are ready, the Trainer will give 1 crack of the whip to begin in the direction each pony is facing.

Each pony will continue walking around their big circle until a new command is given.  The pony will do the following:

  1. ONE crack:  at the next straight line that cuts thru a small circle, follow that line thru the circle and begin walking around the next larger circle.  (For example, a pony walking clockwise around C would pass thru D and continue by walking clockwise around E.)
  2. TWO cracks:  at the next small circle, walk into the circle, STOP and face outward (the same position as when we began).
  3. THREE cracks:  wherever the pony is, STOP, turn around 180 degrees to the LEFT, and continue walking back on the same circle.  (For example, a pony walking clockwise around E will stop, turn all the way around to the left, and begin walking counterclockwise around E.)
  4. FOUR cracks: wherever the pony is, STOP, turn around 180 degrees to the RIGHT, and continue walking back on the same circle.  (Same as #3, but the pony spins their body in the opposite direction.)

If NO command is given the pony just remains circling the Large circle.

The center circle and the lines thru it (on some Flower fields) are NOT used at all in Synchronous Dressage.
